Kos, the island of Hippocrates.

The father of medicine was born here in 460 BC and was destined to be the founder of the first medical school and founder of the science in this sense. After his death, built the famous Asklipieion here in 357 BC, dedicated to Asklipios, the god of medicine.

Today is Kos a modern island, attract thousands of tourists every year. The endless beaches and dense vegetation, clear waters and excellent tourist infrastructure make it one of the favorite destinations in Greece.
Their preference on the island show even the turtles "caretta-caretta", and the monk seal "monachus-monachus"

- Municipality of Kos: Kritika 2 / Milos, Pefkokefali / Agios Kosmas
- City of Dikaion: Tingaki, Marmari

Sightseeing   Kos Sights:

  • The ancient Asklipieio
    It is within walking distance of town, built on three levels on the hill and it is certainly impressive.
  • The Castle of the Knights
    Built by the Venetians in the 15th century AD will see when entering the port. It is well preserved and some rooms often hosted several events.
  • The plane tree of Hippocrates
    According to tradition, Hippocrates himself planted this maple tree at the point where he taught his disciples. The Trunk has a diameter of over 10m. and logically should be 2400 years (!) and perhaps the oldest tree in Europe..
